We demolished a small frame house on the site and built the new house on the south sloping side. The house is frame using reclaimed white oak logs for the first floor column structure and antique poplar (salvaged from a razed building on EKU campus) for structural ties in the main living space. The exterior is sided in native sassafras ship-lap and poplar siding. The house collects nearly all the roof's rainwater in a cistern for use as the main water supply for the house.
